DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd made its entry into the mobile 3G arena by simultaneously launching its Turbo 3G services for mobile phones in Penang and Kota Kinabalu yesterday.
DiGi products and segment marketing head Albern Murty said the launch marked a milestone for the telco as it now offered complete Internet services to its customers.
“We launched our broadband services just five months ago in Penang with the promise of covering 70% of the island by year’s end.
“We have now achieved that target well beforehand,” he said during a Turbo 3G launching ceremony attended by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng here. He said DiGi had committed RM75mil to expand its broadband services in the state over the next three years.
By then, we hope to have expanded our 3G services to the whole of Penang island and a significant part of the mainland.”
In Kota Kinabalu, DiGi customer and channels head Chan Nam Kiong said: “This comes just five months after we introduced our broadband service in Kota Kinabalu. By extending quality Internet to Sabahans, we hope more people will get online and realise the state’s ambition to make Sabah a connected state.”
Chan said this at the launch by state Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Yee Moh Chai.
In conjunction with the launch, DiGi is offering its postpaid customers unlimited Internet access for RM58 with a special RM10 discount for the first 12 months while prepaid customers enjoy unlimited Internet all day for no more than RM5 a day.
